25 Gigabyte MediaMax Account
We have also created an account for you at MediaMax
MediaMax gives you an easy way to backup files, and place them on the web so that you can access them anywhere. You can also use this resource to quickly add these files to your site.
To demonstrate this facility, we will use the example of adding an audio file to a post:
Adding Media to your site using MediaMax
First of all we must place our audio file on the web so that our site can access it
- Go to Mediamax.com
- Log in using the controls in the top-right corner and the login details we have supplied. (Note: These login details are not the same as the login for your Wordpress site). This takes you to your File Manager. Here you can see all the files and folders which are currently stored in your MediaMax account.
- Click the Upload button in the top-left corner. Then click the Browse button to choose the file on your computer that you wish to upload. When you have chosen your file, you can either add another file or press upload to upload the selected files to your MediaMax account.
- After this you should see a screen telling you that your upload was successful. Click the link to take you back to the File Manager where you should see your file/s in the My Files folder. (Please note that sometimes it can take a few minutes for your file to be processed and appear)
- If you only want to store your file, then it can stay in this folder until you wish to access it. If, however you want to display it through your website you will need to move it to the Hosted folder.
Moving a file in Media Max
Click in the check-box to the left of the file you wish to move. Then press the Move button.
In the Move Items window, select the folder that you wish to move files to. In this case, it is the Hosted folder.
Once you have moved the file. Click on Hosted in the left-hand file browser. This will display all the files and folders that are within the Hosted folder. You will notice that next to each file, under the title Hosted Link there is a URL address which is where the file is stored.
This is the address that you will need to display this file in your site. Select the URL with your cursor and copy it by pressing Control C or Command C on a mac.
- Ok, now your have placed the file on the web, and by copying it’s URL to your clipboard, you now have the all the information you need to make it part of your site. Lets go back to your Wordpress account.
- Login if you need to and go to your Dashboard.
- Click Manage and find the post to which you wish to add the sound file. Click Edit to the right of the post title.
- Now you are in the text editor, adding your sound file is simple. You must type audio within [] brackets and then tell wordpress where your audio file is. For example:
[audio http://www.mediamax.com/YOUR_ACCOUNT/Hosted/YOUR_FILE.mp3]
- And that’s it. Save your changes and go back to the front-end of your site. You should see the following audio player:
Users of your site can now listen to your audio file by clicking the play button on this player.
