TWiki (Version 1.41) Help Guide...

TWiki Logo A wiki (of which TWiki is a version) is a great piece of co-operative technology that allows all of us to view and edit a webpage/s as if they were documents. When you wish to edit a page, you simply click on the 'Edit' link at the top or bottom of the page, change or add to the page how you wish, then click 'Preview Changes'. If it looks OK then press 'Save'. If not hit the back button on your browser and re-edit. The wiki system allows you to use HTML is you wish (if you know it!

Wiki also has its own special 'wiki' syntax. So:

  • Bold

adding stars either site of a word or sentence makes it bold.

  • ---+ Title

Three minus signs and a plus allows you to create a title

  • * bullets

Three spaces and a single star creates a bullet point.

  • NewPage

Putting two or more words together with capitals allows you to create a new page linked to the original (When you save this link it will appear with a ? next to it, when you click on that the new page appear – edit and save this and you have created a new page!)

All web links written beginning with http:// will automatically become active links. As will email addresses.

Also note that if somebody else is using the page, you won't be able to.

When in edit mode, you will be able to see the raw wiki text or HTML syntax - its often quicker to cut and paste other peoples text and edit it to suit. There is more – but that should keep you busy now!

You can also use the links at the top of the page to upload files to the wiki. To do this click on the 'Attachments' button at the bottom of the page. Then select the file you wish to upload (by clicking on the browse button) and add a comment to tell others what the file is and then click the 'Upload File' button. This will create a table at the bottom of the page with your file in, ready for use. If in addtion to this table, you wish to have alink to the file elsewhere on the wiki page, simply click the 'Create a link to the attached file at the end of the topic' option when you upload the file.
