What is Alumina?
Alumina. Chemical formula Al2O3. The refractory industry uses ionic crystals that are ionized at high temperatures.

Modified alumina of ultra high purity with rare earths

Shanghai Jiaotong University has put in operation the pilot project of rare Earth modified high-purity sapphires, independently researched and developed. For the first time, alumina high purity products with 5N (purity greater 99.999%) were produced on this production line. The high-purity product is the top-of-the-line aluminum and sapphire raw material. The new project is able to fill in the blanks left by the international high-purity rare earth aluminum preparation technology. It will also allow the industrial chain of high purity aluminum and artificial sapphire realizing the entire line.

The R&D team in China has created the first ultra-high purity aluminum purification technology and equipment that is protected by complete intellectual property rights. Professor Zhang Wei is the team leader. He said that this new technology perfectly combines a high-purity alumina filtration process with specialized technology for preparing rare earth materials. After adding rare earth to the product, it not only improved toughness but also achieved color brightness and hardness. Now that the technology has improved greatly, it is possible to prepare ultra-high purity aluminum ingots 6N and produce large quantities of 5N ingots.
According to the current understanding, high-purity aluminium hydrolysate with a purity of at least 5N is used as the primary raw material in producing single-chip sapphire-LED substrates. Sapphire is the substrate of choice for more than 90 percent of LED manufacturers worldwide. High-purity Alumina is also widely utilized in the manufacture of lithium battery separators materials, high end phosphors catalysts and semiconductor ceramics.
