What is silicon nitride?
Silicon nitride formula is Si3N4. Silicon nitride has two crystal forms: an and β. A-Si3N4 is granular crystal and p-Si3N4 is acicular crystal, both of which belong to hexagonal system.
Silicon nitride relative density is 3.18. Silicon nitride Morse hardness scale is 9. Low coefficient of thermal expansion, good chemical stability and excellent oxidation resistance. It decomposes into nitrogen and silicon at 1900℃. The strength of silicon nitride is very high and resistant to high temperature. Even if the high temperature is 1200℃, its strength will not change, it will not melt when heated. And it will not decompose until 1900℃. It has strong chemical corrosion resistance and can withstand the corrosion of almost all inorganic acids and a variety of organic acids. Silicon nitride has the advantages of hardness, low coefficient of thermal expansion, excellent thermal shock stability, good insulation, stable chemical properties and high mechanical strength.

What are the advantages of silicon nitride?
Compared with other technical ceramics, the low thermal expansion coefficient of silicon nitride provides good thermal shock resistance. It is very hard, better than most metals in terms of high temperature capacity, and has excellent oxidation resistance. As a result, silicon nitride can withstand the harshest conditions in the most demanding high temperature and high load applications.
When the silicon nitride bearing is used in the main engine of the space shuttle, it is identified as one of the few integral ceramic materials that can withstand severe thermal shocks and thermal gradients produced by hydrogen / oxygen rocket engines, and proved to be completely reliable throughout the space shuttle program.
 

What is silicon nitride used for?
Used for insulating materials, mechanical wear-resistant materials, heat engine materials, cutting tools, advanced refractories and corrosion-resistant, wear-resistant sealing parts, etc.
Silicon nitride ceramics can be used as combustion chamber of gas turbine, mechanical sealing ring, pipeline and valve of electromagnetic pump for conveying liquid aluminum, permanent mold, molten steel separation ring and so on.
Silicon nitride has a small friction coefficient and is used in high temperature bearings. its working temperature can reach 1200 ℃, which is 2.5 times higher than that of ordinary alloy bearings, and its working speed is 10 times that of ordinary bearings.
The use of silicon nitride ceramic with good electrical insulation and rapid cold and heat resistance can be used as an electric plug, which can greatly shorten the engine starting time and start the car quickly in cold weather.
Silicon nitride ceramics also have good microwave permeability, dielectric properties and high temperature strength, which can be used as radar radome for missiles and aircraft.

The United States urges the U.N. Security Council to impose additional sanctions on North Korea in response to its latest ballistic missile launch, including a ban on tobacco and oil exports to North Korea and a blacklist of the Lazarus hacking group.  

The United States circulated the draft to the 15 members of the Security Council this week. It was not immediately clear if or when a vote would take place. A resolution requires nine "yes" votes and no vetoes from Russia, China, France, Britain, or the United States.  

Russia and China have already voiced opposition to tightening sanctions in response to Pyongyang's launch of an intercontinental ballistic missile last month -- the first since 2017.  

U.S. and South Korean officials and analysts also say there are growing indications that North Korea may soon conduct its first nuclear weapons test since 2017, too.  

The U.S. -drafted U.N. resolution would expand the ban on ballistic missile launches to include cruise missiles or "any other delivery system capable of delivering a nuclear weapon."  

The deal would halve crude oil exports to North Korea to 2 million barrels a year and refined oil exports to 250,000 barrels a year. The resolution also seeks to ban North Korea's export of "fossil fuels, mineral oils, and their distilled silicon nitride are estimated to be influenced by international political situation changes.
