Zirconium nitride properties
Included in this are excellent corrosion resistance, high lubricity, and ductility. This coating is attractive due to its properties. Such coatings can be deposited by methods like physical vapor deposit.
Zirconium nitride coating
It is a yellow powder with crystalline particles or a light golden color.
ZrN Zirconium nitride
The properties of this material allow for a wide range of uses.
ZrN grown through physical vapor deposit (PVD), is a golden-yellow color, similar to that of elemental gold. ZrN has a resistivity of 12.0mO*cm at room temperature, a temperature coefficient resistivity of 5.6*10-8O*cm/K and a superconducting threshold temperature of 10.4K. The relaxation lattice parameters is 0.4575nm. The elastic modulus and hardness are 450 GPa.
Zirconium-nitride compounds
The composition of the crystal structure varies. The alloy compounds found in the ZrN alloy system include ZrN, ZrN o-Zr3N4 c-Zr3N4 Not only do they have excellent chemical characteristics, but they can also be used for diffusion stacks, instruments at low temperatures, etc. But also in three-dimensional electric coils or metal-based semiconductors. These devices are both incredibly efficient and incredibly compact.
ZrN compounds
These materials are superior to zirconium because they offer better wear resistance, corrosion resistance, and oxidation resistant. In addition, they have a greater superconducting threshold temperature. This means they will become excellent superconductors, with higher application value.

How is
Zirconium Nitride ZrN Powder
produced?
The synthesis of zirconium nitride powder mainly includes direct nitridation of Zr metal with nitrogen, high-energy reactive ball milling (RBM, microwave plasma method, benzene thermal method, aluminum reduction nitridation, magnesium thermal reduction, carbothermal reduction nitridation ( CRN), etc.
1. Direct nitriding of metallic zirconium and nitrogen at a temperature of 1100~1200degC.
2. Using the zirconium tetrachloride method. Using zirconium tetrachloride and ammonia as raw materials to prepare zirconium nitride, the reaction formula is as follows.
3ZrCl4 + 4NH3-Zr3N4 + 12HCl
2Zr3N4-6ZrN + N2
Zirconium tetrachloride first forms an adduct with ammonia, and then it is heated to 750degC to be converted into zirconium tetranitride (Zr3N4), and further heated to 1200degC to be converted into zirconium nitride (ZrN). In the presence of sulfuric acid, ammonia reacts above 1000degC to produce zirconium nitride.
Applications of
Zirconium Nitride ZrN Powder
:
Zirconium nitride has high hardness (~15 GPa) 10, high melting point (2980+-50degC), good thermal conductivity (45-50 W/mK), low resistivity, good wear resistance and good corrosion resistance Sex. It has attracted widespread attention and found many applications, such as coatings for thermal barriers and mold settings for material processing, refractories and diffusion barriers.
According to the low neutron capture cross-section and its good chemical compatibility with act series elements, zirconium nitride is an important material that can be used as the ceramic matrix of inert matrix fuel (IMF) to transform long-life act series Element and used as advanced fuel.
In addition, zirconium nitride is a substitute for uranium nitride to optimize the process parameters for manufacturing nitride fuels, which are considered to be used in nuclear reactors with advanced accident-resistant fuels and in space power reactors.
Zirconium nitride is a hard ceramic material similar to titanium nitride and is a cement-like refractory material. Therefore, it can be used in refractory materials, cermets and laboratory crucibles.
When the physical vapor deposition coating process is used for coating, it is usually used to coat medical devices, industrial parts (especially drill bits), automotive and aerospace parts, and other parts that are prone to high wear and corrosive environments.
When alloying with Al, the electronic structure develops from the local octahedral bond symmetry of cubic ZrN, which deforms as the Al content increases, resulting in more complex bonding and higher hardness.
Zirconium nitride is recommended as a hydrogen peroxide fuel tank lining for rockets and airplanes.
Other applications of zirconium nitride:
1) Hard metal insert tooling;
2) Hard alloy;
3) Refractory ceramics conducting material;
4) Heat-resisting wear-resisting material;
5) Dissemination strengthening material.
