If the metal is heated with oxygen, it can be resuspended in order to produce gray or black powder. The metal reacts with the sodium and potassium oxides at very high temperatures (> 700°C) to create the nickelates.
Additionally, nickel oxide nanoparticles are possible by thermally decomposing new prepared nickel hydroxide via a sol-gel method at 300degC (572degF). To characterize nickel oxide nanoparticles made by this process, an X-ray scatterometer and vibrating magnetometer are available.
